The 2023 CIRM Annual Conference will take place at the wonderful Marriott Hotel in Izmir, Türkiye

Located right beside the sea in the ancient coastal city of Izmir, the hotel has everything to offer for a great meeting; plus, if you wish to extend your stay, a happy break for you and your families.

The meeting begins on the morning of Tuesday 3 October and ends on the afternoon of Thursday 5 October. For Directors, there will also be meetings on Monday 2 October.

Accommodation

Special room rates have been negotiated with the Izmir Marriott Hotel.

You can make a hotel booking by following the instructions in the CIRM registration form (please see the "Registration & Hotel booking" tab)

Hotel terms and conditions (please note all the terms and conditions on the Marriott booking page):

  • Rate per night €220.00 (double €240.00) including buffet breakfast; but excluding 8% VAT & 2% Accommodation VAT
  • Three nights before and three nights after the event can also be booked at this rate (29 September to 8 October, subject to availability!)
  • Reservation will be guaranteed with delegate’s credit card. Should any delegate cancel their reservation prior to 3rd July 2023 there will be no charge.
  • Should the delegate cancel their reservation after 3rd July 2023, then the hotel shall charge a cancellation fee of one night's stay.
  • Upon booking guests will pay for 1 night up-front, with the accommodation balance to be paid upon check-in.

Visas

Many CIRM Members will be exempt from requiring a visa to visit Türkiye. Please check using the Turkish government's official webpage: Visa information for Foreigners.
For those requiring a visa, the Electronic Visa (e-Visa) Application System allows visitors travelling to Türkiye for the purpose of commerce to easily obtain their e-Visas online, in approximately three minutes: (www.evisa.gov.tr).
Please note that if you require a letter of invitation from CIRM, at least 10-12 weeks notice is required to complete the process.

Travel

Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport is only 25 minutes away from the Izmir Marriott Hotel.

Taxi services are available from Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. The rate for travelling to the Izmir Marriott is approx 500 Turkish Lira (EUR 25) per vehicle basis - most taxis only take cash!

Partners

For delegates bringing their partners to Izmir, those partners may participate in the evening social events provided a small "partner fee" is paid. This fee applies equally to the partners of Members and of special guests.

For the avoidance of doubt, no partners are entitled to join lunches or tea/coffe breaks during the daily meeting sessions.

An optional Partner Tour will be arranged on one of the days during the conference; further details will be provided in due course.

Weather

In October, Izmir is warm but not overly hot. The average temperature at this time of year is 18°C, reaching a high of 23°C in the peak of the afternoon. After dark temperatures dip to an average low of 12°C, so you’ll need to pack warm layers for evenings out.

Dress code

Dress code is as always smart casual; ties are not necessary.

The full programme will be published once it is mature. In the meantime the table below provides an overview:

Monday 2 October - (Board of Directors only) Board Meeting; Technical Steering Committee
Tuesday 3 October - Conference all day; Opening reception
Wednesday 4 October - Conference all day
Thursday 5 October - Conference and Working Groups; Group dinner

Specific topics under discussion will include autonomous shipping, automated ship reporting and Martime Single Window, ECDIS and S-100 matters, the customer perspective, digital maritime communications, the CIRM Code of Practice for service companies and more!

Meetings of individual CIRM Working Groups will take place before lunch and after lunch on the final day (Thursday 5 October).
